ABOUT US
Progressive Parenting was born out of an insatiable hunger for knowledge that took over my husband (Producer) Craig and I had after the birth of our first baby. We were so bewildered  and lost. We felt so alone. So many of the things we were doing that felt right to us came under question from family and friends. Slowly we began discovering that we were not alone in our parenting philosophy. We read dozens of books and looked for even more information. One day after a great day of sharing information at our now closed Maternity Store and Resource Center, I came home glowing. I told Craig, “I got to talk to three separate moms that felt lost and needed some help and I shared X Y & Z with them and they left feeling better.” Craig said these words that led us where we are today. It’s too bad you can’t have a radio show where you share great info and have experts come on and help parents.” Within three weeks of him saying that we had a show.

OUR MISSION

Progressive Parenting is here to share information with parents. We want parents to know they are not alone and we want to support them through their parenting. The mission of Progressive Parenting is to inform, not preach, to share not advise, and to connect not alienate.

EVERY WEEK

Monday nights from 10pm CST – 11:30pm CST we talk to nurses, family workers, authors and experts from different fields to answer your parenting questions. Because this is a PROGRESSIVE talk show, we will broach topics and air opinions that you as a parent might not otherwise hear about through main stream media.

OUR LISTENERS

Over the years we’ve found our listeners are parents, grandparents, & caregivers(aunts, uncles,& nannys). Some of our listeners are in their 20′s and do not have children. The one thing they all have in common is they are open minded and curious. We are grateful to our long time listeners who have been with us from the beginning and to our new listeners who have reached out and told us what they want to hear.

OUR HISTORY
Progressive Parenting Radio has changed over the 4 years we’ve ben on the air. We started on an AM radio station (AM 790 The Valley’s Progressive Talk Radio). That station was bought up by CBS who quickly got rid of the Progressive Talk radio and replaced it and Air America with ESPN 2. After a few months off we were approached by Pacifica Radio station’s affiliate KFCF in Fresno where we stayed for 2 years. After we moved to Austin Texas we decided to use a new medium in order to reach as many parents as possible. Enter BLOGTALK radio. We are happy with Blogtalk, it’s so easy now to interact with our audience through comments left on our page there. We can see who’s listening and from where.

  1. Dear Gena,
i have just come across your radio show and have listened to the fabulous talk by Suzanne Arms- she is amazing, and as i live in the UK it is a treat to hear her speak.
It is a truly fantastic resource that you have provided, and one which i will point expectant mothers to in the future ( as a doula and yoga for pregnancy tecaher I am always trying to point women towards empowered and positive things on birth, but as I am sure you know it is not awlays the easiest task!)
I have recently written a book called The Good Birth Companion, published by Vermillion which is a birth book designed to try and take the natural birth message mainstream, and I am sure you would love it- I was wondering if I could send you a copy to get your opinion on the book as it might be something your listeners or readers would be interested in. Do let mw know if you’d be interested, and if so, where I should get a copy sent to.
    With warmest wishes,
    Nicole
